Most people will agree to say that poker is one of the most interesting card game ever invented. Even though it is quite hard to trace the true origins of the game, we know a lot of poker games types were played for a long time. Some say that poker was the first card game to be played in the USA. But the game actually comes in different poker games types. The most recent variation of the game to get popular was the Texas Hold’em, which is the one you can usually see on TV. But many other poker games types were around way before this one. Let’s review some of the variations of this wonderful game.

• Stud Poker:
The Stud poker is played with a combination of cards dealt faced down and faced up. A number of cards are dealt each round (or street) followed by a round of betting. The “7 cards stud” would be the most famous variation of this poker style. It is played with 3 cards faced down that only the player can see and 4 cards faced up that will be seen by the whole table. Each player has to make the best combination out of those 7 cards and bet accordingly.
• Draw poker:
The Draw Poker is played with a full hand dealt the each player at the beginning of the game. The game is usually played with ante (an amount each player will need to pay to enter the hand). Once the players received their hands, they will have a chance to change some of their cards. They will then give back the unwanted cards to the dealer to receive the same amount of new cards. They will then bet on their game. The 5 card draw is the most famous version of Draw poker.
• Community card poker (or flop poker)
This is the most famous kind of poker played today. Each player is dealt a various number of personal cards and will then be followed by community cards. The first community card dealt are known as the flop (three cards), then will follow a round of betting. Then comes the next community card: the turn. And another round of betting will occur. And the last community card will be the river, and it will be followed by the last round of betting.
The most popular Community card poker games played today are the Texas Hold-em and the Omaha.
A lot of different poker games types were played throughout the history and it kept the players interested and playing. It is a great strategic game because a lot of the time, a player can get the pot (the money all player bet during the hand) without even having to show his own cards. It introduces the concept of “bluff” which is pretending to have a hand you don’t have to “steal” the pot. This allows people to play the player more than the cards. Poker is an excellent game and will continue to be around for a long time.
